John Wallis was a London mapmaker and publisher, apprenticed to William Johnson from whom he learned his cartography skills. After leaving his apprenticeship, and a few failed business ventures, he established a printing and publishing house with his sone, Edward. This was to become a very successful business and they subsequently went on to produce many important maps. This is an early example and is detailed and accurate map of London at the turn of the (18th) century.
