Dutch painter Geer Van Velde was a leading member of the 2nd Ecole de Paris.
Using a moderate fauvist palette with distinctive pastel hues, he ‘sought all his life’ to express the light, especially that found in the Midi where he settled from 1944.
Based on cubist lessons, his well-structured work is abstract whilst keeping a link to realism.
For many years he was represented by the Galerie Maeght.
