An original antique map from 1843.
Drawn and engraved by Edward Weller for the Weekly Despatch Atlas.
Later hand colouring.
The "Weekly Dispatch Atlas" was a collection of maps published in parts by the Weekly Dispatch newspaper, starting in 1857. These maps were initially issued weekly and intended for the public, offering affordable access to atlases for both British and world maps. The maps were drawn and engraved by various cartographers, including Edward Weller and John Dower.
Edward Weller (1819 – 1884) F.R.G.S. was a British engraver and cartographer, who was one of the first to produce maps using lithography.
He was a "London-based engraver, cartographer and publisher, working from offices in Red Lion Square and later, Bloomsbury", who produced detailed steel plate engraved maps.
