Wren's plan for wide Boulevards and open Piazza's never came into fruition. He was not the only architect to put forward a plan of a geometric system. The idea was for principle roads linking piazzas and cutting through a grid of parallel roads and avenues. The plan was modelled on Paris but was rushed and the ground incorrectly surveyed. The king and his brother were not keen. The question of cost and time to implement such a plan would have been excessive and property owners would certainly been unhappy without significant compensation.
