Johann Georg Justus Perthes.
The publishing house of Justus Perthes was established by Johann Georg Justus in 1785. Originally a bookseller, he moved into publishing when he was awarded the contract to print the "Alamanach de Gotha".
Following his death his son Wilhelm took over the firm and transformed the business into a large geographical publishing house. From 1817 to 1890 the company produced over 20 different atlases.
