Description:
Original antique copper engraved map For Mr Tindals Continuation of Mr Rapins History of England Published by James & Paul Knapton, London, 1751
A map of Mahon Harbour, Minorca, the British Navys base in the Meditterranean. Of interest is the depiction of the redoubts of Fort St Philip, the most expensive fort ever built by the British. During the Seven Years War the island was taken by the French (1756), but returned to Britain in the Treaty of Paris. In 1782 the French and Spanish took Fort St Philip again, demolishing it to stop it being used again.
