Andre Marchand was a French painter born 1907. At the age fourteen, Marchand began to paint landscapes with the use of watercolors.
However, after leaving school, struggling for money, he worked as a laborer in a construction site for four years but he continued to paint in his spare time. Eventually he was able to hold local exhibtiions of his work and was eventually able to move to Provence. Marchand lived the rest of his life here, where he drew mostly landscapes and still life. Marchand’s artistic repertoire and stature grew. His traditional style transited into a more modern, semi-abstract style in his artworks. His artworks began to also reflect his admiration for Matisse, almost mimicking his art style.
Marcelle Oury was a great friend of Raoul Dufy. Following his death, she compiled and published a portfolio "Lettres A Mon Peintre" ("Letters to my Painter"), paying 'hommage' to him, using some of Dufy's own works, and other works by close artist friends of Dufy and Oury.
The production was limited to 5000 numbered copies.
