From Ellis's 'New and Correct Atlas of England and Wales ' (1819): This was a significant cartographic work. The atlas, containing maps engraved by James Wallis, was a re-issue of Wallis's 1812 'A New and Improved County Atlas'.
It contained significantly more details than any other collection of the same kind.
It was designed for the use of travelers, academies and libraries, to fulfill the desire of those who wished to improve their knowledge of their country.
The information contained in it was taken from the latest surveys of the time.
