Published in 16 sheets this map is sheet 13 and illustrates the south west corner of the survey. It is bounded at the bottom and left by a decorative border and contains the scale in the lower margin.
John Rocque's family were Huguenots and arrived in England some time in the early 18th century.
They resided in Soho and lived amongst the French community who had escaped the persecution in France.
John began his career as a surveyor of gardens belonging to the aristocracy.
His survey of London started in 1737 and took nine years to complete.
