John Bettes was a Member of the Royal Geographical Society. He was a British publisher, map maker, globe maker and engraver. He sold educational games, maps and his famous collapsible cloth globe. He was the agent for the American publisher Joseph Colton (USA), and following his death, his map plate were purchased by George Phillip & Son and Stanford's, who continued to publish them for many years.
All the maps are present and generally in good order. The colours are fresh. There is minor foxing throughout and the contents page is detached and torn with some missing areas at the bottom and right margins.
Still tightly bound, with the board covers in good order. The leather spine is also in good condition.
