Rare map of South Africa, including three detailed inset maps of the Cape of of Good Hope/Table Bay, Saldanha Bay, and Cape Fort, all with a legend. There is a cartouche dedication to Domino Wilhelmo.
The coastline is inaccurate, while Hottentot tribes are illustrated throughout the mainland.
The "Com Post" near Seekoe Valley, the east, became Vergelegen the famous farm, still in existence, and would become the hunting lodge and then farm of Willem Adriaan van der Stel before he was forced to return to the Netherlands.The map is dedicated to William I, Elector of Hesse (1743 -1821) by Issak Augustus Jassoy, a merchant from Hannover.
Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717-1777) is one of the best-known German mapmakers of the eighteenth century. He engraved many of the maps published by Matthaus Seutter, before taking over Seutter’s business in 1756.
